Mitsubishi Colt XLS hatchback Road Test Report

Mitsubishi Colt XLS hatchback Road Test Report

As the popular Mirage disappears from Mitsubishi’s local line-up, the Colt nameplate returns, ready to battle it out in the premium small car sector. Its stylish “mono-box” design, (more compact people mover than hatchback), features a panoramic front screen and upright abbreviated tail. Only one drivetrain is on offer for our market – the 1.5litre MIVEC four cylinder mated to Mitsubishi’s automatic INVECS III CVT (continuously variable transmission).

Finding a good driving position is easy with the Colt’s generous seat height adjustment and tilt steering wheel – but the hard edged centre dash and parking brake can get in the way. While they may not be large, the front seats proved comfortable enough in the suburban crawl. Though minimal lateral support means there isn’t much to hold you in place along tight and twistingroads. With 150mm of travel and excellent headroom the rear seat is comfortable enough for short trips, but the cushion’s flat shape works against it on longer hauls.

The right is reserved to change specifications, partnumbers and features without prior notice. To avoid any misunderstandings your Mitsubishi Motors dealer will advise of any alterations made since the date of issue of this brochure. No part of this publication may be reproduced in any form or by any means, without the prior written permission of Mitsubishi Motors Europe B.V.. Why bother with accessories, you might ask. Just throw everything you can think of at the design board and you’ve got the perfect automobile. Well, one reason for options and accessories is that your definition of perfection is more likely to differ from ours than it is to coincide with it. Another is that cars reflect people’s individual style, taste and character. We’re all different and we like to be seen to be different. So, what we at Mitsubishi Motors have done, is build a Lancer that’s packed with the latest in automotive technology, that meets and exceeds the demands of modern and everyday motoring, but that leaves the definition of perfection up to you. The wide range of options and accessories in this brochure will enable you to tailor your new Lancer to suit your needs in every respect.

Mitsubishi V6 Plenum Removal Guide for 8G Galant’s & 3G Eclipse’s

Mitsubishi V6 Plenum Removal Guide for 8G Galant’s & 3G Eclipse’s

Tools required:
• ratchet with 10mm, 12mm, & 14mm sockets
• spark plug socket (17mm??)
• 3″ & 9″ extensions for ratchet
• pliers ‐ one regular and one needle nose
• jewelers flathead screwdriver
• can of compressed air or air hose (optional)
• can of carburetor cleaner
• clean rags and newspaper
• one quart size plastic bottle like motor oil or a sturdy piece of wood or simular about that height used to prop up the air intake plenum
• security code (if you have stock radio)
• one tiewrap if you have to cut the one under air intake hose (optional)

Removal of air intake plenum:
First of all, the task at hand is really easier than it appears. The only thing is… it takes time. If you know nothing about cars or what things are under the hood, I suggest you take a look at figure 18 and see if this is comprehendible to you. If it is and you have the tools and feel comfortable, please proceed. If not, I suggest you find a qualified mechanic instead of doing it yourself. The plenum itself is actually very easy to unbolt, only 13 bolts & nuts hold it in place. (fig. 19) What makes it complicated is all the other stuff you have to unbolt and move out of the way so your plenum is free to completely flip up and give you full access to the sparkplugs.

To make things easier, after you unbolt the item and move it out of the way, always put the bolts back into that socket when you can. This way, there is less bolts to remember where they should go. For the other bolts that you have to remove, place them on an unfolded newspaper relative to the position of the plenum. Just picture the center of the newspaper as your plenum and place the bolts onto the newspaper in the same relative position to help you remember where they go later.

Let me give you some general information first so you will get a better picture of what we are attempting to do and what it is that we are moving out of the way for our ultimate task. Yes we are attempting to move the plenum out of the way, but there are some things that are attached to the plenum we really don’t have to worry about. (fig. 6 & 7) These things will stay connected and moved together with the plenum as one piece. They are the throttle body, throttle cable adjustment bracket, all EGR vacuum hoses and valves. I will be referring to the 22 pictures below throughout the instructions.

Mitsubishi Pajero GLX Di-D 3.2 Litre Manual Road Test Report

Mitsubishi Pajero GLX Di-D 3.2 Litre Manual Road Test Report

Responsive new engine provides good performance Ride comfort WORST Significant engine noise Centre rear lap belt only Non ABS braking system manual gearbox was the variant evaluated for this report and represents the entry level diesel Pajero. The standard equipment features of this vehicle are reasonably good and include air conditioning, power steering, electric mirrors and windows, radio/CD player, engine immobiliser, driver’s airbag, limited slip differential and cruise control (now standard on all Di-D models).

Significantly, anti-lock brakes are not fitted to the GLX, while a passenger’s airbag is available as an option. A monocoque body shell has been used since the introduction of the NM Pajero, and aside from the new engine, the structure of the Pajero remains unaltered. The test vehicle appeared reasonably well finished, although it had been subjected to a fairly hard life. As a result, the Pajero had a couple of rattles and some poor fitting body mouldings. The interior of the Pajero is roomy enough to satisfy the space requirements of most adults. The front bucket seats are quite comfortable, offering good lateral support but no lumbar adjustment. The rear seat is a 60/40 split fold unit that is quite basic in shape and there is still only a lap belt for the centre rear seating position. A fold out third row seat provides additional seating for two small children. The Pajero has a good layout of controls and instruments that, typically of many Japanese vehicles, is clear and easy to operate. While the steering wheel may be tilted, there is no adjustment for reach. The new 3.2 litre Di-D engine is an impressive unit that develops good power and torque, and delivers good performance. The engine comes into its own on the open road where it is particularly responsive, providing easy and safe overtaking. I still found the engine in the GLX quite noisy, with a pronounced amount of diesel clatter permeating the cabin of the vehicle. The Pajero’s suspension is very compliant and gives the occupants a very comfortable ride. The brakes would certainly benefit from the addition of ABS, as it was easy to lock the wheels during a sudden stop and for the vehicle to get out of shape. SUMMARY: Mitsubishi’s new 3.2 litre direct injection diesel engine is an impressive unit that helps bolster the ranks of the Pajero and broaden its appeal. With a significant capacity increase and use of more up to date technology, the Di-D engine delivers greatly improved performance and better fuel economy.
