For older vehicles, the diagnostic connector can often be found in the engine compartment. Astra-F 16 pin OBD connector located in the fuse compartment to the right hand side of the steering wheel on RHD vehicles and to the left hand side of the steering wheel on LHD vehicles. The rear seat is a 60/40 split fold unit that is quite basic in shape and there is still only a lap belt for the centre rear seating position. A fold out third row seat provides additional seating for two small children. The Pajero has a good layout of controls and instruments that, typically of many Japanese vehicles, is clear and easy to operate. While the steering wheel may be tilted, there is no adjustment for reach. The new 3.2 litre Di-D engine is an impressive unit that develops good power and torque, and delivers good performance. The engine comes into its own on the open road where it is particularly responsive, providing easy and safe overtaking. I still found the engine in the GLX quite noisy, with a pronounced amount of diesel clatter permeating the cabin of the vehicle. The Pajero’s suspension is very compliant and gives the occupants a very comfortable ride. The brakes would certainly benefit from the addition of ABS, as it was easy to lock the wheels during a sudden stop and for the vehicle to get out of shape. SUMMARY: Mitsubishi’s new 3.2 litre direct injection diesel engine is an impressive unit that helps bolster the ranks of the Pajero and broaden its appeal. With a significant capacity increase and use of more up to date technology, the Di-D engine delivers greatly improved performance and better fuel economy.

The Odyssey has a under dash foot operated handbrake, it is simple to operate and increases space around the drivers seat. The centre console is hinged and can be swung out of the way to make access to the second row of seats easier. Smaller items rattle around inside the console when flipped down, which is somewhat distracting. SAFETY The new Odyssey benefits from the latest thinking on occupant safety by providing a crash compatible body that can withstand collisions from any direction, reducing occupant injury and providing a passenger survival space. Honda’s safety strategy is not limited to the occupants inside the Odyssey . Engineers have designed the vehicle to minimise aggressive impact to other vehicles. In addition to the improved body structure the Odyssey has two stage driver and passenger airbags; the Luxury version receives additional side curtain airbags that protect all three rows of seats. The front row seats have three point, load limiter equipped, pretensioner seat belts. The centre seat in the second row has only a sash type seatbelt; Honda falls behind its competitors in this important area. The following information provides basic precautions which must be observed if fuel is to be handled safely. It also outlines the other areas of risk which must not be ignored. This information is issued for basic guidance only, and in any case of doubt, appropriate enquiries should be made of your local Fire Officer or Fire Department. Fuel vapour is highly flammable and in confined spaces is also very explosive and toxic and when diluted with air becomes a readily ignitable mixture. The vapour is heavier than air and will always fall to the lowest level. It can readily be distributed throughout a workshop by air current, consequently, even a small spillage of fuel is very dangerous.

Always have a fire extinguisher containing FOAM CO2 GAS, or POWDER close at hand when handling fuel, or when dismantling fuel systems and in areas where fuel containers are stored. WARNING: lt is imperative that the battery is not disconnected during fuel system repairs as arcing at the battery terminal could ignite fuel vapour in the atmosphere. Always disconnect the vehicle battery BEFORE carrying out work on the fuel system. Whenever fuel is being handled, transferred or stored, or when fuel systems are being dismantled all forms of ignition must be extinguished or removed, any leadlamps used must be flame proof and kept clear of spillage. No one should be permitted to repair components associated with fuel without first having had fuel system training. Hot fuel handling precautions WARNING: Before commencing any operation requiring fuel to be drained from the fuel tank, the following procedure must be adhered to: 1. Allow sufficient time for the fuel to cool, thus avoiding contact with hot fuels. 2. Vent the system by removing the fuel filler cap in a well ventilated area. Refit the filler cap until the commencement of fuel drainage. Fuel transfer WARNING: Fuel must not be extracted or drained from any vehicle while it is standing over a pit. The transfer of fuel from the vehicle fuel tank must be carried out in a well ventilated area. An approved transfer tank must be used according to the transfer tank manufacturer’s instructions and local regulations, including attention to grounding of tanks. Fuel tank removal A FUEL VAPOUR warning label must be attached to the fuel tank upon removal from the vehicle. Fuel tank repair Under no circumstances should a repair to any tank be attempted.
