Mitsubishi Colt XLS hatchback Road Test Report

Mitsubishi Colt XLS hatchback Road Test Report

As the popular Mirage disappears from Mitsubishi’s local line-up, the Colt nameplate returns, ready to battle it out in the premium small car sector. Its stylish “mono-box” design, (more compact people mover than hatchback), features a panoramic front screen and upright abbreviated tail. Only one drivetrain is on offer for our market – the 1.5litre MIVEC four cylinder mated to Mitsubishi’s automatic INVECS III CVT (continuously variable transmission).

Finding a good driving position is easy with the Colt’s generous seat height adjustment and tilt steering wheel – but the hard edged centre dash and parking brake can get in the way. While they may not be large, the front seats proved comfortable enough in the suburban crawl. Though minimal lateral support means there isn’t much to hold you in place along tight and twistingroads. With 150mm of travel and excellent headroom the rear seat is comfortable enough for short trips, but the cushion’s flat shape works against it on longer hauls.
